- الرواية الرسمية: تشير التحقيقات الأولية إلى أن أحد أولياء الأمور، وهو مهندس بترول، دخل المدرسة خلال مشاجرة بين ابنه وبعض الطلاب. قام الأب بإطلاق أعيرة نارية من مسدس صوتي لتخويف الطلاب وفَضّ الشجار.
- رواية أخرى: ظهرت رواية أخرى على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي تفيد بأن إطلاق النار كان عشوائيًا، وأن الدافع وراءه غير معروف.
