Santa Cruz Lifeguards Rescue Boy From Powerful Waves

A dramatic lifeguard rescue at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz, California, on Saturday, July 25, ended safely after a young boy was caught in powerful sur According to NBC Bay Area and KSBW, the boy, believed to be about 10, was overwhelmed by repeated waves and swept away from shore.

A 16-year-old lifeguard entered the water, held onto the child and fought to move him back toward the beach. Another lifeguard and several beachgoers then helped bring them safely ashore. Witness Scott Vander Dussen, who filmed the incident, said the lifeguard maintained a “gorilla grip” to prevent the boy from being swept back out.
